The Best Repair Is the One You Never Need
Regular preventive maintenance is the single most effective thing you can do to extend the life of your HVAC equipment, keep your energy bills in check, and avoid unexpected breakdowns at the worst possible times. We offer seasonal tune-ups in the spring before cooling season and in the fall before heating season — so your system is always ready when you need it most.
East Tennessee puts real demands on HVAC equipment. Summers are long, humid, and hot, pushing air conditioners hard for five or more months. Winters bring stretches of genuine cold that test furnaces and heat pumps. A system that hasn’t been serviced in a year or two is one that’s accumulating wear, running less efficiently, and quietly working toward a failure — usually on the hottest day in July or the coldest night in January.
Skipping maintenance doesn’t save money. It shifts the cost from a predictable, affordable tune-up to an unpredictable, expensive repair — often with the added pain of an emergency service call fee and the discomfort of waiting for parts.
Performed before the cooling season begins, typically March through May. This is the time to make sure your air conditioner or heat pump is ready to handle a Knoxville summer.
What we inspect, clean, and test during a spring tune-up:
We clean the condenser coil of dirt, pollen, and debris that accumulates over fall and winter(if needed). A dirty coil forces the compressor to work harder, raising energy consumption and shortening equipment life. We also straighten bent fins, inspect the cabinet for damage, and clear vegetation from around the unit.
Low refrigerant is a sign of a leak somewhere in the system. We check operating pressures and inspect accessible refrigerant lines and connections. If levels are off, we find the source before adding refrigerant — adding to a leaking system without fixing the leak is a temporary and wasteful fix.
We inspect and tighten all electrical connections, check capacitors and contactors for wear, and measure amperage draws on the compressor and fan motors. Weak capacitors are one of the leading causes of no-cool calls in summer and are inexpensive to replace during a tune-up compared to the cost of an emergency visit.
We inspect the indoor coil for dirt buildup and check for signs of icing or drainage issues. A dirty evaporator coil reduces cooling capacity and can lead to frozen coils and water damage.

Performed before the heating season begins, typically September through November. This is the time to make sure your furnace, heat pump, or other heating equipment is operating safely and efficiently before cold weather arrives.
What we inspect, clean, and test during a fall tune-up:
This is the most critical safety check in a gas furnace tune-up. A cracked heat exchanger can allow combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, to enter your living space without any visible warning. We inspect all accessible heat exchanger surfaces for cracks, holes, and deterioration.
We clean the burners, inspect the ignition system (hot surface igniter or pilot), and verify the flame pattern is correct. Yellow or uneven flames indicate combustion problems that affect both efficiency and safety.
For heat pump systems, we test the reversing valve, measure heating capacity, check auxiliary and emergency heat operation, and inspect defrost cycle controls.
We inspect and tighten all electrical connections, check heating contactors and relays, and measure component amperage draws.

Heating and cooling equipment should be serviced once per year at minimum.
